De Montfort University (DMU) students celebrated the end of the academic year at De Montfort Students’ Union's (DSU) unforgettable new event, DSU Celebrates: A Night at the Casino.

Students and DSU celebrated the amazing achievements of all our societies and sports teams, highlighting how they have contributed to creating an amazing student experience in 2018/19.

The evening - hosted by our Officer Team Mollie Footitt and Derrick Mensah - looked back over the last 12 months spent representing your academic interests at DMU and everything achieved by DSU's members.

Mollie and Derrick were the comperes for the evening, hosted over three floors in the Campus Centre.

The event saw the Campus Centre transformed over three floors which included a casino, selfie booths, food and plenty of themed decorations.

Guests also enjoyed entertainment from dancers and performances from both Music Society and Bollywood Dance as well as an Award Evening.

Demon Media were amongst the winners, having been recognised for their outstanding contribution to charity.

Thomas Evers, Head of Tech for Demon Media, explained how great it felt that Demon’s efforts this year had been appreciated, “It was amazing to see the success of Demon48 recognized! We really put everything into making the event the best it could possibly be.

“Staying up for 48 hours was definitely a struggle, but I guess the crates of fizzy pop and Crème Eggs helped.”

Demon Media won the award for Raise and Give (RAG) for their oustandaing efforts for Demon48.

The celebrations were the last main event hosted by the Executive Team for 2018/19. Deputy President Education, Mollie Footitt said: “The night was such a success and it was great to see so many student groups celebrating their achievements.

“Seeing the Campus Centre being transformed into a great venue space was also special. It was great to host an event like this here, with it being the home of DSU.”

“This year has been another fantastic one and I’ll be sad to hand the Education baton over. But, there’s still time to celebrate on our upcoming trip to Brussels, which will be an amazing way to end the academic year and my time at DSU!”

Students also saw the premier of the 2019 highlights video, which included a recap of all the amazing events over the year, as well as some of Mollie and Derrick’s best bloopers.

After the awards, students continued celebrations at the After Party, in the Campus Centre Function Rooms, into the early hours of the morning.
