We are your students' union!
De Montfort Students' Union (DSU) is an independent, student-run and student-led organisation. We're here to represent your academic interests, involve and inspire you to make the most of your time at De Montfort University (DMU).
Every single student that enrols at DMU automatically becomes a member of DSU; and that means you have access to all of the wonderful services, facilities and activities that we offer.
However, should you want to, you can opt out of being a member of the students' union at any time by completing the Opt-Out Form.
University is not only about education, but also developing and shaping your future through the experiences and memories you create. DSU is here to help you achieve this!
We know that coming to uni is expensive, so we take great pride in being a non-profit organisation (and we're actually a registered charity). That means every penny spent in the union is reinvested back into making our services and events awesome and affordable.
So...how does it all work?
We're completely student-run and student-led. But what does that actually mean?
Each year, students at DMU elect an Officer Team of full-time and part-time representatives to ensure your voice is heard at the highest levels of the university – and beyond. The Officer Team is made up of current or former DMU students.
Our full-time executive officers – sometimes known as 'sabbatical officers' – also sit on our Trustee Board, alongside four Student Trustees and up to four External Trustees, who draw experience from the worlds of business, education or the charity sector.
The Trustee Board is ultimately responsible for the running of DSU, ensuring we are financially solvent, well-run and delivering on our objectives for the benefit of our student members. Our trustees also set the broad strategic direction of the union and ensure that we comply with charity law.
Strategic objectives are then fed down to our staff team – headed by our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – who are employed in a variety of roles and positions to ensure that the services we offer are run as efficiently as possible and in the best interests of our members.
