De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s Officer Team will once again be making student life unforgettable when close to 1,000 De Montfort University (DMU) students head to New York in January.

Both Mollie Footitt, DP Education, and Derrick Mensah, VP Student Activities, will be heading to the Big Apple alongside hundreds of final-year students to deliver a number of additional activities organised by their students’ union.

The events come after the success of similar activities held during previous mass #DMUglobal trips to New York, Berlin and Hong Kong.

Derrick explained: “We’ll be hosting a number of evening activities for students to engage with during their time in New York.

“And to those who are heading to New York, I just want to say; you’re going to have a great time and an experience like nothing you’ve seen before.”

Derrick spoke at the headquarters of the United Nations during DMU's last mass trip to New York earlier in 2018.

The Officer Team will serve as tour guides as they take hundreds of students to see landmarks like Times Square and the Brooklyn Bridge, to cultural centres such as Little Italy and Chinatown as well as activities including bowling on the all-new DSU Date Night.

Both Mollie and Derrick – backed by both DSU and DMU staff – will also be on hand to support students during the once-in-a-lifetime trip…including advice on what to pack.

“As you might now, New York can be very cold at this time of year,” Derrick continued. “So make sure you get your warm coat out, take a pair of gloves, and pack some waterproof shoes!”

#DMUglobal trips enable students to enrich studies, broaden their cultural horizons and develop key skills valued by employers.

And while the additional events we’re putting on in New York are mainly FREE, due to limited spaces you’ll need to sign up first, through the links above.

Following positive feedback from students, we’ve also once again set up a Facebook group to help you keep up-to-date with what’s happening both before we go and while we’re in New York.

And if that’s not enough, we’re setting a challenge for every student heading to the Big Apple to try and take as many photos with famous landmarks as possible.

Each student heading on the mass trip will receive a postcard with key information and a list of some of the places we want you to head to as part of our #DSUinNYC competition.

Send us the photos on social media, and the students who head to the most locations will win some amazing prizes, including vouchers for SU’s Diner and goodies from SUpplies!

We're encouraging students heading on the #DMUglobal trip to New York to explore the city with our #DSUinNYC selfie competition.
