Welcome to DMU Cycling

De Montfort University Cycling is a sports club with a group of students who are passionate about maximising their experience at University. We pride ourselves on being more than just a cycling club. If you want to get fit, compete or simply enjoy the social life that University offers then DMU Cycling is the club for you. The aim of the club is to be open for people of all abilities, with any type of goal and bring them all together to form a bond that will last beyond university years. Whether you are looking to compete for your university, improve your fitness, or just enjoy socialising with your friends on a gentle bike ride it doesn't matter, we welcome everyone.

Training is where you will be able to work on your goals with your friends around you. Whatever your aim, we will help you reach it with training set in accordance with your goal and aims to support your journey. We run circuit sessions at the QE2 9-10pm every Tuesday. The sessions are great way to work out with members who are looking to achieve similar goals to yourself. Wednesdays are our competitive rides which are a great way to see the beautiful countryside in Leicestershire. When the weather is poor, we still ride inside on our rollers. Thursdays are our spin classes, these are a great way to work out and have fun with both competitive and social classes.

Saturdays and Sundays are dedicated to cycle rides which will be mapped out for you beforehand and are split into groups depending on how fast you want to go. We make sure you push yourself to your limit but no one gets left behind. Each group will have a target to reach making sure that you finish the ride knowing you've put your full effort in. We also offer a social ride which includes a stop off for a pub lunch in one of Leicester's surrounding villages.

It is great to see your hard work rewarded and competing for your university is one of the best feelings you can get. We compete in BUCS competitions which see the best cyclists from different universities competing against each other and is the main aim for all competitive cyclists. BUCS competitions include hill climbs, down hill MTB, track, road races, duathalons as well as both individual and team time trials. We also compete alongside  our local partners Leicester Forest Cycling Club who give us a wider variety of competitions around the county of Leicestershire.

Social life

Every Wednesday night the whole club go on a club social where we visit different bars and is the perfect opportunity to meet new people and gain lifelong friends. Wednesday nights are known by our members as the best night of the week! Themes of the socials are different each week and by the end of the year you will gain your DMU Cycling tie, which is a great souvenir to take from your time at University and wear when you come back to visit after you have graduated. Alumni events are held several times a year and ensure that you can relive the fun side of University life after you've finished your degree.  We also offer sober socials such as club meals and both interclub 5-a-side football and benchball matches.

The Cycling Club prides itself on it's family feel as the members of the club are all close friends who aim to help everyone reach their goals whether that is academically, personally or in cycling. We offer a community which can help each other through food nights and gatherings on a weekly basis to get together and take a break from university to enjoy ourselves creating a real family feel.

We hope to see you at one of our training sessions. For information on when these take place please look at our Facebook page where information and news is posted regularly. To keep up with the clubs training and journey follow us on Twitter and Instagram. Any questions please don't hesitate to get in contact by email or Facebook and we will reply as quick as possible.
