We’re giving you the chance to create a piece of artwork that will take pride of place in De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s Campus Centre home.

DSU is running a competition open to all De Montfort University (DMU) students for pieces of work linked to the theme of the United Nations (UN)’s Sustainable Development Goal 16 of peace, justice and strong institutions.

A total of 16 shortlisted designs will be displayed in A1 frames on the ground floor of the Campus Centre.

All 16 designs will receive £50 towards the cost of realisation, and of those 16, seven will receive a further award of £100, with one prize of £200 for the best artwork.

To apply, send one digital image (or mock-up) of what your design would look like, alongside two sentences of text to outline your vision to dsucomms@dmu.ac.uk before 11:59am on Friday 18 January.

You might want to use your personal experiences as a starting point; strong institutions don’t need to be large, national constructs like the Houses of Parliament – a school or a society can also be strong.

Strong institutions promote peaceful and inclusive societies, and operate in a transparent and efficient manner without corruption.

Your artwork could be a painting, print, photograph, or piece of concrete poetry; in fact, anything that will fit in an A1 frame!

Designs will then be shortlisted by a panel made up of two students, two academics, and a member of our Officer Team. Shortlisted pieces of artwork need to be submitted by Monday 4 March.

Each shortlisted student will be awarded £50 towards ‘costs and recognition of time and commitment’ for creating their piece. This will be paid when the final A1    artwork is completed and submitted, with details on this process to be sent following shortlisting.

If you have any questions, please email dsucomms@dmu.ac.uk. Good luck!

Our Fine Art Society donated a piece of artwork to DSU earlier in 2018, and ‘I am DMU’ is now proudly displayed in the Campus Centre Atrium.
