Your De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) Vice President Media and Communications for 2017/18 is Mike Mayes.
As your VP Media and Communications, it may come as no surprise that Mike likes to get involved with all things media related. Not only being a huge film fan (sci-fi fantasy and thrillers especially) and a massive music lover, with particular interests in Downtempo Electronic and Jazztronica (whatever that is!), but he’s also a keen player of table top gaming and video games.
Media aside, with a love for travel and mountains, Mike also hopes to travel more sometime in the future. Since graduating in 2016 with a degree in Media Production, Mike is resuming his role as VP Media and Communications with plans to continue the incredible support for Demon Media and establishing a production company for students.
Within his role, one of Mike’s key responsibilities is facilitating De Montfort’s multi-award winning student media group, Demon Media.
Compromised of TV, magazine and radio, the student group requires a lot of support and organisation for which Mike is heavily involved with. With his media expertise, it is also his responsibility with helping to project the student voice, working alongside the union and marketing department, to ensure that all students are well represented and informed.
- Commissioned Media Production – Students can make money and expand portfolio by being creative.
- Demon Media Governance – To review Demon Media’s governance structure and help it become more sustainable.
- Transparent Academic Experience – To help better inform students about where their fees are spent.
