Your De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) President for 2017/18 is Ahtesham Mahmood.
With a degree in Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science and a Masters in Pharmaceutical Quality by Design, Ahtesham is always trying to do something new. Recent pursuits including getting more ‘outdoorsy’ (mowing the lawn) and having an open willingness to get involved with everything from sports (apart from running…) to spending quality time with others.
He’s all about personal and strategic development, so you’ll find him trying to learn and absorb as much as he can from all situations (and yes, that includes fictional films). With a passion for experiencing and understanding different cultures, Ahtesham is keen to go travelling in the future with hopes to expand his cultural understanding. For now, however, he’s keeping up good relationships with the International Society…
Stepping up to become President after holding the role of VP Student Activities in 2016/17, Ahtesham retains a very broad and open portfolio. His key responsibilities revolve around the student body and assessing the issues that are brought up and how these affect you as students.
As well as this, making sure the student voice is heard is key to his role and looking at how the student body fits into the wider picture. Whilst continually looking for ways to develop the DSU, Ahtesham is also responsible for developing ways to further relationships with the university, City Council and Leicester City itself.
- DSU Marketplace – Giving students the ability to promote their products and business.
- Tenant’s Union – To create a representative structure in university recommended housing.
- 24-Hour Campus – For Vijay Patel and Queens Building to become 24-hour during exam time.
