I propose this idea to support postgraduate student with being able to extend student accommodation contracts to support them in their DMU journey. Currently, a postgraduate programme runs from September to September, which is 12 months, where as most student accommodation providers only run for 9 months. This can interfere with them being able to attend classes around May / August, where it is time for postgraduate students to finish Block 4 and their dissertation projects. Postgraduate students are currently being told to find alternative accommodations, however postgraduate students who are international students may not find a guarantor to support them in another accommodation, or they cannot afford to rent a different accommodation and so they are most likely going to return to their home country, which affects their performance and attendance rates over time. This is proven unfair for postgraduate students who are dedicated to join their classes.

I propose that the university and the Students' Union work together to have conversations with accommodation providers to provide a contract for postgraduate students, so they are able to extend their stay to complete their studies.
