Now on to the BUKC Championship!!!
The karts used in the BUKC are simply the finest fleet of “arrive-and-drive” karts in the UK. They are nothing like the normal indoor or outdoor karts that many are used to.
This is a proper racing fleet which can accelerate from 5 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 70mph. If you have never been in a “2-stroke” kart before, you’ll never forget your first time!
If you haven't ever been in a 2-stroke kart, the karts used in the BUKC are unlike anything you have ever been on. The test days provides with the perfect opportunity to get to grips with the Club100 karts.
As such, every driver racing in the BUKC must attend at least one of the test days prior to competing in the BUKC. In this way, the driver can obtain what they call the BUKC driver license. If a driver does not attend a test day they will not be granted the license, meaning that they will not be able to race at the Championship.
Each team is allocated a kart for 2 hours of uninterrupted track time which can be shared between 2 drivers (1h track time) or 4 drivers (30min track time). The test days are also the place to practice fuel stops and teamwork.
The test days are scheduled for:
· Test Day 1: 29th Oct: Whilton Mill
· Test Day 2: 30th Oct: Whilton Mill
· Test Day 3: 5th Nov: Buckmore Park
Test Day 4: 4th Feb: PFI
Each team consists of 4 drivers. Last year we had two teams, (Team A and Team B). Team A consists of more experienced drivers and Team B of less experience but amazing drivers. However, if there are enough drivers we can always have up to 4 teams.
There are two types of championships: The Main Championship and the Intermediate Championship
- The Main championship consists of a more competitive championship, where the most skilled drivers and teams compete.
- The Intermediate Championship gives the chance for less experienced divers to still have a very competitive championship and have fun!
Both Championships take place over 4 single round race days between the start of February 2020 and the end of March 2020. Please note the dates below may change.
· Mains Rds 1 & 2: 11th Feb: PFI
· Inters Round 1: 12th Feb: PFI
· Mains Rds 3 & 4: 4th March: Buckmore Park
· Inters Round 2: 5th March: Buckmore Park
· Mains Rds 5 & 6: 13th March: GYG
· Inters Round 3: 14th March: GYG
· Mains Rds 7 & 8: 3rd April: Clay Pigeon
· Inters Round 4: 4th April: Clay Pigeon
Drivers Champs: 5th April: Clay Pigeon
Both Championships are competitive, fun and there is a massive, not to be missed "After Party" during the final weekend of the championship! Heheh
Also, all races will be streamed live on Facebook!!! So your mum can see you race and embarrass you on the comments! ;)
Unfortunately, karting is an expensive sport. However, with the help of the uni and our sponsors, we work hard to bring the prices down to make it as affordable as possible for everyone.
Our sponsorship package has yet to be finalised, but as a baseline, we think it will not be more expensive than £65 per round (everything included - hotel and transportation).
Test Days: £60 per driver (£20 per test)
Qualis: 100% Funded
Mains: 70% Funded
Intermediate: Not funded- £420 per team / £105 per driver- Per round
Now an established club at DMU, we have as such been nominated and have won awards for our outstanding achievements over the past 2 years. It has been amazing for the Uni to recognise our success in the BUKC. We plan to build on our previous years' success, so expect big things from the Karting Club this year!
If you've managed to read till this point, I applaud you. If you're still interested in competing in the DKC or BUKC, you can message us over in our Facebook group or via email.
See you all in September! :)
