This Friday January 22 sees DSU’s #ReFreshers16 Week come to a fun and relaxing end with ‘Feel Good Friday’.
Level 1 will be visited by Guide Dogs UK, and students are invited to come and see the trainee Guide Dogs, spend time with them, and find out more about the way they are funded.
Due to the popularity of this event you will need to sign up for ten minute time slots. This will open at 11am and all you need to do is turn up with your student card to book your slot.
DSU asks that you donate £1 to contribute towards the costs of Guide Dogs UK and all the money raised will go to the charity.
Elsewhere, students can then take part in the other activities on offer that are designed to help them feel good about themselves.
Dan Tinkler, Volunteer and Societies Coordinator at DSU, said: “All the activities are designed to get people relaxing and understand things they can do to continue feeling good about themselves.”
From 11 until 3 in the Lounge there is PostPals, where students can spend five or more minutes creating a card that can be sent out to sick children and their families.
Each card being made will be tailored to the individual recipient, with information about the children and their siblings provided for a more personal touch.
There is no need to sign up for this event and students can just drop-in at any time.
Aside from that, there is the ‘Feel Good Tree’ where students can paint on their reasons for being volunteers with the students’ union, or reasons why they want to volunteer, on to an entire wall in the Campus Centre building.
Dan added: “We want to create a bit of a visual legacy of what our students do and also sell the idea of getting away with just painting walls on the campus and enjoying themselves.”
Then, to round-up a successful #ReFreshers16 Week, there will be a film shown in the Lounge at 3pm, to be enjoyed with a hot chocolate gifted by your DSU. See you there!
