De Montfort Students’ Union will be celebrating Pride from the beginning of February, and have organised four weeks of events to support the LGBTQ+ community along with anyone else who wishes to celebrate.
The DSU Pride Launch will be on Monday 3 February, with activities being held in the Campus Centre including free candyfloss and face glitter.
On Thursday 6 February, DSU’s LGBTQ+ Officer, Roisin Forde, will be presenting a talk on ‘How to be a Trans Ally’, providing advice and information to anyone who wishes to understand and support people who are Transgender.
On Friday 14 February, we will be hosting Heart Strings: Valentine’s Day Extravaganza – our very first Drag cabaret here at the union, starring Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK’s Vinegar Strokes, along with other Drag artists.
Think you’re the ultimate Ru Paul’s Drag Race fan? Our weekly Pub Quiz on Monday 17 February will be centred around the show. Entry will be £1 and starts at 8pm in the Campus Centre.
Towards the end of DSU Pride, there will be a Rocky Horror movie night on Thursday 27 February. Join us in the upper floor of the Campus Centre at 6pm, to conclude Pride month in the twisted world of the 1975 premiere.
Diya Rattanpal, your Equality and Diversity Executive says: “To help lead on DSU’s Pride History Month, and to experience it with all of the Students’ Union is a great honour and experience. It’s extremely important to me to show absolute solidarity and support with our LGBTQ+ students on campus, and for them to know that they, and their sexualities are valid, always.”
We hope all our students enjoy celebrating Pride with De Montfort Students’ Union. Our aim to support students who identify themselves within the LGBTQ+ community, and anyone who feels that Pride is important to them.
