Nominations for De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s Student Group Elections are now…OPEN! This is your chance to choose the De Montfort University (DMU) students to #PowerYourUnion and lead your student group in 2018/19.

If your sports club or society hasn’t yet chosen a full committee for next year, there’s the chance to nominate yourself for each student leader position – although choose wisely, as you can only put yourself forward for one position per student group.

Nominations for the Student Group Elections close on Monday 23 April at 11:59pm.

Derrick was a student leader at DMU even before becoming part of our Officer Team in 2017.

Derrick Mensah, VP Student Activities at DSU, sat on a number of student group committees during his time as a student at DMU.

“Student groups are a vital part of the university experience,” he explained. “They give the chance for any student to take part and be included in something other than just their degree.

“I was part of the African Caribbean Society, Student Choir and DMU Steppers, and all of those things brought me great joy when I was [a student] here.”

All committee members are offered training by DSU to fully equip you with the skills you will need to lead your student group over the next 12 months.

Derrick continued: “Do you see yourself leading or representing your student group?

“If the answer is yes, then I suggest you nominate yourself for the Student Group Elections. Nominate yourself and I assure you you will not regret it!”
