We've heard from students who are understandably worried about delays to their final results and what this means for their Graduate visa applications.
As your Student Voice Leaders, we've raised these concerns directly with the university and have been working closely with them to find a solution.
The university has responded positively and committed to releasing results earlier for the 97 students affected. We've also challenged the tight timescales and asked whether results could be released sooner.
DMU has confirmed that assessment boards on 28 and 29 October are the earliest possible dates, but has reassured us that students should still have time to submit their applications before their visas expire on 30 October.
What happens next?
• Prepare your application: DMU advises that students can start preparing their Graduate visa applications now, ready to submit once the university confirms their successful completion has been reported to the Home Office. DMU have advised students not to pay for or submit your application before receiving this confirmation from DMU.
• Information session: DMU is contacting affected students directly about a dedicated online session on 22 October, where its International Student Services team will explain the process and answer questions.
• Prioritised support: DMU has confirmed that its Visa team is prioritising enquiries from affected students.
• Immigration status: DMU has explained that students who submit a valid application before their current visa expires can remain legally in the UK while awaiting a decision, under Section 3C leave. DMU advises students to submit promptly once eligible, rather than waiting until the deadline, in case of technical difficulties.
For further information, please visit the DMU Graduate visa webpage or contact the university's International Student Services team at visaadvice@dmu.ac.uk The team can explain the relevant immigration arrangements and answer questions about your circumstances.
We appreciate the work DMU has done to respond to our concerns and will continue working with them to make sure affected students receive the support they need.
