It’s the highlight of every Student Volunteering Week; and this year is no different!

Back by popular demand for the seventh year, De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) are holding our annual Sponsored Sleep Out on the Campus Centre steps to raise money for charity.

Ahtesham Mahmood, VP Student Activities at DSU, has already signed up for the night. He said: “I saw the opportunity and I jumped at it. The only time I have done anything remotely similar was camping during my Duke of Edinburgh Award – it was absolutely freezing!

“I just don’t understand how people who are forced to are able to spend a night vulnerable to the weather and everything else that goes with it.”

Action Homeless is a local charity that supports homeless and vulnerable people across Leicestershire.

The Sleep Out starts on Saturday 25 February at 7pm all the way through until 6am the next day and gives the volunteers taking part the real experience of what a homeless environment is really like; and is a great opportunity to raise awareness of homelessness in the local community.

Ahtesham continued: “I was walking past the students who were doing this last year, and seeing a group of people come together was incredible. It speaks volumes to me.

“As for this year, I don’t really know what to expect. I know that I’ll need to greet the night with a different respect. If you are interested, join us!”

To take part in the Sleep Out all you need to do is make a donation of £5 and register your interest here or at the DSU Reception.

The Sponsored Sleep Out will raise funds for Action Homeless, who aim to break the cycle of homelessness across Leicestershire.
