Speak up and be a Course Rep hero! Nominations are now OPEN for our Course Rep elections!
Represent your course mates next year by nominating yourself to become a Course Rep. Speak up, be the voice of your course and the be next inspirational change.
Be the link between your peers and the university and have your voice heard. This is your chance to inspire positive change within the university and will add great experience to your CV.
This year’s Elections will take place online, but this doesn’t mean that it’s any less important. We aim to have a representative for every course here at De Montfort University (DMU) and we can only do this with your help. You can nominate yourself here.
You can nominate yourself to be a Course Rep between Monday 23 March – Friday 10 April 2020.
Every Course Rep is provided with the relevant training at the start of their role, which teaches you key skills such as assertiveness, confidence, listening, negotiation, debating, campaigning and how to look after your own wellbeing. You’ll develop these skills throughout the year which will ultimately help you during your time at university as well as in the workplace.
De Montfort Students’ Union’s (DSU) Academic Representation Coordinator, Katie Johnson, says that “For the next academic year we are hoping to create more targeted training. This will include 'How to Campaign', 'Professional Etiquette' and any other areas Course Reps may want to develop.
“We are also going to help Course Reps create a 'Professional Pathway' with Careers, so that Course Reps will have some sort of qualification by the end of the year. We will be trialling this and if it works, we will roll it out to all Course Reps!”
Current Course Reps have already made a difference by changing assignment deadlines; pushing to improve course resources; improving building accessibility; and planning DMU Global trips for their course.
Katie Johnson speaks about why having Course Reps is important: “Course Reps are vital to the University as they represent all student views within their cohort. They act as the students’ voice at important meetings and committees so that the University is led by students, for students.”
