In most of their final fixtures before Christmas, it was a mixed bag of results for DSU’s sports teams this week, registering seven wins, five losses and one draw.

This broad range of results was best exemplified by men’s football, with three of their sides in home action, and each on the end of a different outcome.

The thirds overcame University of Northampton’s thirds 2-0 while the fourths shared a 1-1 draw with the University of Lincoln’s second-string side.

The seconds were less successful, however, defeated 5-1 by University of Warwick fourths.

Their female counterparts’ first XI had no such problems, though, as they fought out a narrow 3-2 victory at home to Nottingham Trent’s thirds.

Netball seconds edged out University of Northampton’s seconds, triumphing 31-29 at home, but their first-team had a tougher time of it away at Anglia Ruskin’s firsts, being beaten 52-43.

Women’s hockey firsts also made the trip to Ruskin to take on their firsts and came away with a 3-1 win.

Elsewhere on the road, women’s volleyball firsts made the short trip across town to the University of Leicester and brought home the local bragging rights with a 3-1 success.

Men’s rugby seconds were on course for a huge win against Aston University’s second-team, leading by 30 points until a serious injury to a De Montfort player forced the game’s abandonment. All at DSU wish the injured player a speedy recovery.
