Keep it quiet, but…it’s almost Christmas! And as we approach 2017, here at De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) we know that many of you lovely lot might be looking at where you’re going to live next year.

But don’t panic! We’re here to remind you that you don’t need to make quick decisions when it comes to signing a contract.

We understand that you might want to get ahead in the housing game but it’s our Advice team’s job to make you aware of the consequences that come with signing up too early – which might leave you saying ‘what was I thinking?’

So, let us reassure you that you should never feel rushed into making such an important decision. And here are some of the top reasons why…

Keira Rounsley, VP Welfare and Community at DSU, said: “At this time of year a lot of students start to think about where they’ll be living next year.

“But when you’re put under such stress and time pressure, you might make a decision you later regret – and sign a contract you don’t want anymore.

“That’s why we’re looking to help reassure De Montfort University (DMU) students with this #whatwasithinking campaign and remind you that you should take your time and make sure you choose wisely.”

Keira will be on campus next week (from Monday 5 December) with a housing roadshow that will feature a spin the wheel game to highlight why you shouldn’t rush into deciding where to live, plus loads of top tips from students who’ve been there before.

In research undertaken by money.co.uk, it was found that as many as two in five students won't get their full housing deposit back. To read more, as well as seen their top renting tips, click here.
