I would like to put my name forward for nomination for Mature Students Liberation Officer.

I am a mature student studying Fine Art.

I have worked for academic institutions for most of my life. Working for Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes), whilst I lived in Oxford, and when I moved to Leicester, working at De Montfort University in Admissions, Engineering and Health and Life Sciences.

After leaving DMU I spent my time at Leicester College, eventually employed as Deputy Clerk to the Corporation. This involved minuting several meetings, liaising with governors and arranging the Student Liaison Committee, working closely with the student representatives and the Governing Body.

I believe I have the ability to listen to what mature students want and to their needs, and with my experience working in Education, have some idea of what goes on ‘behind the scenes’. I hope that I can encourage students to believe in themselves, to feel they can achieve anything they want to and to give them any help I can to ensure that their stay at DMU is a happy and fulfilling adventure.

Whilst at DMU, I was Branch Secretary of Unison and at Leicester College was working as a Fair Treatment Officer, both of these were voluntary posts.

I am now fulfilling my dream, after retiring from my full-time work, completing a Foundation course in Art and Design at DMU and I am now on the first half of the second year of a BA in Fine Art, studying as a part-time student.

If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
