Cassandra Trainor

Hi! I’m Cassandra Trainor, I’m a third year undergraduate History and Politics student and I’m running for Academic Executive Officer!

  • I want to enhance the systems of communication between students and staff that already exist and create new systems where possible. Not only would I focus on personally consulting faculty and course reps. I would start a public campaign to improve awareness of the ways students can register feedback. I would hold events on campus to introduce students to student leadership and show them how we’re organised and how we receive and act on their feedback.
  • I will work with faculty leads and course reps to solve issues that some students are facing with the block teaching system. I would improve access to course resources, which some course reps have claimed are stressed by the new schedule, for example access to kilns and other shared workshop spaces in the art and design departments.
  • The library has been very important to my studies at DMU and were I elected I would continue the work that is currently being done to improve it. More accessible study spaces and improving website functionality would be a key part of my leadership.

I believe my academic achievements make me a good fit for the role. I received awards for best achievement for a first and second year undergraduate student on my course and have produced work I am absolutely proud of. I have working relationships with professors in the ADH faculty, and in my capacity as a course rep I have communicated issues from the students to them at staff meetings. I have worked a frontrunner position this academic year as a research assistant with Professor Panikos Panayi. Student government is important to me, and I would love to continue my involvement.
