Nerissa Doran

Hi, my name is Nerissa Doran, and I want to be your next Welfare Executive Officer.

First and foremost I am a student, I am a 3rd Year Business Management Student, and when it comes to welfare issues, I am pretty sure I have experienced it all.

In my first year I had mental health issues, at the end of my first year and through to my third year my parents split, and are now divorced. Financial issues have consistently followed me as a student, and with my parents’ split I was never sure where I was living, as I didn’t have a permanent home.

When it comes to representing and listening to the student voice, I have the experience.

In the past, I have been: Course Rep, NUS Delegate, Liberation Officer, and a Student Representative

I am currently serving as your Disabled Students’ Liberation Officer, and now I want to take it further.

As a Liberation Officer I had an accessible campus map developed, showing all the accessible entrances and information for disabled students; as well as creating my own exhibition, and raising the disabled students’ voice on campus.

As your Welfare Executive Officer I would like to:

  • Campaign for more funding towards the university’s mental health services
  • Work on increasing the number of safe, relaxing spaces on campus for students
  • Investigating ways in which food on campus can become more affordable
