Taran Singh

Tarandeep Singh – First year engineering course rep

Having completed the first few weeks of the Engineering course and finding myself enjoying it, I realised I wanted to get more involved in the course not only to improve it but also to learn more about it. We will all be on the course for at least three years and I think it’s right that we improve it not only for us but for next year’s freshers who like us will appreciate the guidance.

As your representative I would aim to ensure that:

  • power is within the student body so that we are getting the most out of university. YOU are being heard. Voting for me is a great opportunity for YOU to get your voice heard, a direct input for YOUR thoughts and ideas. I am here to listen to YOU and I assure you, that I am able to take the responsibility and make a positive change. One of my aims is to increase overall transparency between us students and higher staff. This will ensure effective communication between both parties, and allow you - the students, to raise any issues or contribute towards the growth of the university as a whole.

  • My second aim would be to bring the engineering community closer, promote team working and interactions between you and your colleagues through engaging projects and extra curriculum activities. This will allow you to put your imagination and class learnt skills to practice, see engineering in the real word in more practical ways. Giving you a platform to explore and develop essential skills.

  • Everyone deserves to have a great time at university! As course rep I will also ensure international students are given the support, advice and guidance needed upon their arrival, but most of all that they feel at home and know where to seek help. This will also extend to students joining us from across England, helping you to make friends and explore Leicester even if the night life culture isn't for you!

  • Your voices, opinions and concerns will be heard and brought up with higher authorities. I have experience in organising many workshops, projects and drop-in sessions for various reasons including- employability boosters, mental health as well as talks with leading employers. Therefore, I can guarantee you that I will make it happen and you won't regret voting for me.

In order to deliver upon these aims I will use my previous experiences in representing a student body and my passion for engineering. As well as this I will endeavour to give you opportunities to inform me of any additional changes or proposals you might have.

I would be honoured to represent you during the coming year and to be given the opportunity to make a positive impact on your university experience
