Hi! I’m Joe, a final year Design Crafts student. I have run a major Society, been a Course Representative and am on the SU RAG committee. I believe every student has the right to get high quality support while at DMU.

My three key policies as your Welfare Executive will be:

1. Introduce Mandatory Mental Health and Disability Training for all DMU Staff.

I know first hand how hard it is to be faced with someone who doesn’t know how to deal with an issue you’re facing. As more students with mental health challenges and/or disabilities choose to come to university, it is time staff are properly trained to deal with all students’ needs.

2. Increased Awareness for Support available to Students.

Create a new campaign to increase awareness so that all students know the support that is available to them. Create a signposted welfare route for people to follow within the Students' Union.

3. Work with partners to create a range of wellbeing opportunities.

Work with different external groups to provide a variety of regular drop in session/workshops relevant to all things Student Welfare.

I believe I would be the best candidate for the job of Welfare Executive because the Union’s job in my opinion is simple; it’s about one thing - you, the students. Your success is our success. Your failures are our failures. If we don't support you entirely there is no point in the Students' Union being around. I will commit to supporting students all the way.
