Hey! I’m Zeinab, I am a final year Law student and I am hoping to be your Equality and Diversity Executive for 2020/21. My involvement in DSU, has made me recognise 

the gaps. I want to take this opportunity in making a bigger more impactful changes on campus so that you are not muted and unseen. I want to ensure our current students and future students experience the most enriched, free from prejudice and eye-opening time at university regardless of characteristics. Further enhance student opportunities, ensure voices are heard, listened to and proactively create positive changes that will you can be part of. 

 

ESTABLISH:

 

  • Zero tolerance policy when dealing with racism/discrimination and establish strong university protocols. 
  • Work alongside Decolonising DMU - ensure both entities are tackling racism together and decolonise the institution in different areas. 
  • Workshops on empowering all students and enhancing their skills.
  • Bring more awareness upon the points of access when incidents do occur.
  • A more diverse welfare team. 
  • Bridge the attainment gap.
  • A mentoring scheme for students of all backgrounds.

 

CREATE:

 

  • Work alongside DMU to provide a scholarship for students who could benefit from it and support them financially in being at university. 
  • An action plan to diversify the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre to get more students engaged with projects 


 

UNIFY: 

 

  • Oversee an improvement in university experience for all student with more funding.
  • Create initiatives to allow co-creation, collaboration between societies to increase awareness and celebrate the different communities at DMU. 
  • Plan a DSU trip that is celebrates culture and history.
  • Higher commitments made in celebrating Black History Month, International Faith Day, Pride Month. 
  • Ensure that no student, regardless of any characteristic, is forgotten.
