Hi, My name is Sid and I am running for the position because I feel I can contribute more in that sector from my previous experiences and roles.
I aim to encourage societies and events to be well-equipped academically and socially to make DMU a more friendly and healthy environment for students.
What I plan to do if elected:
- Work with all the societies to contribute to local and student community.
- Reduce gym membership and run weekly membership programme with free monthly sessions.
- To implement a more transparent online portal system to receive student and society grievances to take immediate action within 24 hours.
- To fight for more funding made available in DSU to support students services to access vital services and support
- Work towards eliminating the issue of stigma surrounding physical and mental disabilities through raising awareness and promoting acceptance.
- To ensure safety of students across campus focusing more on students with accessibility support at times of danger by working with Welfare Executive and University Security and improve security measures in Bede Park
- Ensure the University is doing all it can to minimise the impact of potential cuts to the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)
- Organise events to raise improve student welfare awareness in campus
- Push for the NUS to support and increase funding for Mental health provisions and campaigns
- Push for the NUS to increase awareness of obstacles international students face in terms of financial support, tuition fees compared to home students
