Candidate for the position of Third Year History - Rep

Francesca Owens

Hi there, I'm running for the role of course representative for History because I am passionate about making sure that students are heard within the department and have a voice in their education. It’s important for this to happen as it means that students can give honest feedback about the content and teaching of their course. Which, when responded to appropriately, can only make the course better both for current and future students.

You should vote for me because as I have the relevant experience to suit the role. As I held the role for the last year, I am acquainted with the kind of work that a candidate will have to do fulfil other students’ expectations i.e. attending meetings with staff and the department, listening to student’s problems and relaying them to the staff and then explaining to other students what is going to happen to resolve the problems. I am also a student ambassador and so have experience representation both students and the university to the public.

The sort of issues that are facing students right now include;

•             Too long a wait for receiving feedback

•             A feeling of disappointment at the course’s content

•             Confusion with the re-enrolment app

•             Disappointment with assessment types

In order to solve these problems, I would ensure that members of staff are aware of exactly why students are not happy. Ensure that these issues are then taken to the heads of department or any other relevant members of university staff to be discussed within the bi-annual meetings and resolved for the current year, not just for future students.
