DP Education Candidate

I have just completed my degree in Adult Nursing. Being a nursing student has been both challenging and rewarding and I know many other students feel the same about their course.

As a nursing student, I became aware of many of the problems student face in education. In my second year, the early closing times of the library hindered my coursework. I campaigned for the library to be opened 365 days of the year and I successfully persuaded senior management to agree. In my final year, I campaigned for student nurses to be able to participate in more DMU global trips and I successfully persuaded senior management to agree. My experience of student life at DMU had fueled my aspiration to be elected as Deputy President Education, to ensure students have equal academic opportunities and resources.

If elected, I will provide more opportunities for students to voice their concerns and more avenues for students to gain practical experience. If I elected I will:

Your Global Perspective

  • Create #DMUglobal trip specific to as many courses as possible, to ensure that students are able to gain a global insight of their course and increase their employability.

Your Journey

  • Create more opportunities for all students, but particularly Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME), to gain support in their academic studies, from the beginning and throughout the duration of their studies. Create better coursework supervision to ensure that help is equally distributed to students. Provide facilities throughout the year and not only at the end of the year, for students to easily voice their opinions on their course and DMU in general e.g. instant, feedback devices.

Your Choice

  • Create the choice of having an additional volunteering credit for most courses, which allows students to use their practical skills to improve their grades.
