Below is a brief Summary for each role and their areas of work.

All 5 Executive Officer roles:

  • Are Full Time, Paid, Elected, Positions
  • Current students in the middle of their studies (i.e. First/Second Year students) would be required to take a Gap Year for next academic year. Students graduating this academic year take on the role after Graduation in July 2021.
  • Representing students’ interests
  • Campaigning on issues
  • Listen  *12 hours of consultation with students per month*
  • Lead on Union matters
  • Five Roles are: Union Development Exec, Academic Exec, Equality & Diversity Exec, Opportunities & Engagement Exec, Welfare Exec.

Union Development Exec focuses on:

  • Key lead on Union governance structures
  • Key lead in promoting the Union internally and externally
  • Act as Union spokesperson  
  • Key lead on driving change and improving the Student Union
  • Chair of Executive Committee

Academic Focuses on:

  • Responsible for Course Reps
  • Key Communicator on academic issues
  • Academic issues include your teaching and learning, assessments, timetables and accessibility to learning   
  • Enhance feedback on academic experience
  • Support the growth and development of academic societies with the Student Opportunities and Engagement Executive.

Equality and Diversity Focuses on:

  • Act as the main representative on equality and diversity issues to the University.
  • Provide Diverse and inclusive activities for students and annual events for underrepresented groups
  • Be responsible for all issues pertaining to equality and diversity within the Union
  • Be the lead Representative with responsibility for the University’s efforts to reduce the attainment gap within DMU.
  • Lead on the strategies of the Liberation Officers.

Opportunities and Engagement Focuses on:

  • Lead on BUCs and Varsity and support Demon Media
  • To ensure that student opportunities are effectively promoted
  • Be involved in the promotion, support and development of societies;
  • Working in collaboration with DMUsports, be involved in the representation of and consultation with sports teams.
  • Be the lead Officer for developing student opportunities
  • HEAR

Welfare Focuses on:

  • Working with dsu Advice team on the Union’s welfare related strategies, including but not limited to housing, sexual health and mental health
  • Be the lead representative on Cost of Living Issues, health such as the sexual health clinic, and
  • Be the lead Representative on the Mandala Project and the Union’s campaigns on identifying and addressing specific issues including but not limited to harassment and sexual misconduct.
  • Work with the University and relevant partners to ensure student safety on campus
  • Maintain relationships with key partners who are able to support the Students’ Union’s welfare activities
  • Raise and Give, (“RAG”)

 

All Liberation officer roles:

  • Part time, Unpaid – Voluntary roles - can be done alongside studies - no Gap Year needed.
  • Commitment is of around 2.5 Hours per week on average.
  • Aimed at promoting Liberation groups.
  • Work closely with the Full Time execs

Seven Part Time Liberation Roles are:

  1. BAME Officer
  2. Disabled Students’ Officer
  3. International Students’ Officer
  4. LGBTQ+ Students’ Officer
  5. Mature Students’ Officer
  6. Post-Grad Students’ Officer
  7. Women’s Officer
