Academic Zone Election

Academic Zone Elections - May 2022

The Academic Zone leads on Union activity in regards to educational matters. The Zone will have responsibility for proposing new initiatives within the Course Representative system, and running academic campaigns aimed at improving students' academic experience. The Academic Zone will hold the Academic Executive to account. Joining the Academic Zone gives you a great chance to input in to how DSU is run and improve the way we represent your fellow students. Any current Course Rep can run in the elections to join the Academic Zone. The Zone membership will be: Academic Representative – Nyashadzashe Gnuwo 12 Course Reps from the four faculties: - Faculty of Arts, Design & Humanities - Faculty of Business & Law - Faculty of Computing, Engineering & Media - Faculty of Health & Life Sciences The Academic Zone will regularly report back to Student Council on academic matters.

Equality & Diversity Zone Election

Equality and Diversity Zone Elections - May 2022

The Diversity & Equality Zone will lead on DSU activity in relation to intersectionality and will ensure that DSU actively consults with liberation groups to inform activity and campaigns. Campaigning will focus on issues such student housing, sexual and mental health and equality. The Zone has responsibility for overseeing DSU’s activity for “Raising and Giving (RAG)” and will hold the Equality & Diversity Executive to account. The Zone membership will be: Equality & Diversity Executive – Puja Subramanium Women’s Representative – Wiktoria Pulka Black, Asian, Minority Ethnicity (BAME) Representative – Maryam Haque LGBTQ+ Representative – Nicole Sibanda Disabled Students’ Representative – Hope Heeley International Students’ Representative – Leonardo Venturi Postgraduate Representative – Nusrat Nadir Mature Students’ Representative – Temi Adekunle 3 x Faith and Cultural Society Committee members 2 x Volunteering/Charity Society Committee members

The Opportunities Zone will lead on DSU activity and campaigns relating to student groups, employability enhancement opportunities and student engagement. The Zone has responsibility for overseeing the approval of new student groups and approving additional funding as well as holding the Student Opportunities & Engagement Executive to account. The Zone membership will be: Student Opportunities & Engagement Executive – Aashni Sawjani 12 elected student group Committee members: 1 x Demon Media Committee member 2 x Sports Club Committee members 2 x Faith and Cultural Society Committee members 2 x Academic Society Committee members 2 x Performance Society Committee members 2 x ‘Other’ Societies Committee members

The new Welfare Zone will lead on DSU activity in relation to Welfare Matters and will ensure that DSU actively consults with Welfare champions and Student Groups to inform activity and campaigns. Campaigning will focus on issues such student housing, mental health and student Welfare matters. The Zone will hold the Welfare Exec to account. The Zone membership will be: Welfare Exec Officer - Benjamin Smith Welfare Champion - ADH Welfare Champion - BAL Welfare Champion - CEM Welfare Champion - HLS 3 x Health & Safety Committee Members from Groups/Clubs/Societies The Welfare Zone will regularly report back to Student Council on welfare matters.

The Open Zone leads on the general development of DSU and all democratic matters. The Zone will have responsibility for campaigning on issues relating to union development and will hold the Union Development Executive to account. Joining the Open Zone gives you a great chance to input in to how DSU is run and improve the way we represent your fellow students. Any current student member of DSU can run in the elections to join the Open Zone. The Zone membership will be: Union Development Executive – Joanna Dine-Hart, - 9 elected student members. The Open Zone will regularly report back to Student Council on union development matters.
