De Montfort University Dance Society is one of the biggest societies on campus, celebrating many forms of dance. We offer a range of classes, some aimed at beginners as well as catering for the more advanced, experienced performer. There are many performance opportunities, including: matriculation ceremonies, open days, DSU election rallies and competitions throughout the year. We aim to enter university competitions across the country each year, and we are planning on hosting our very own competition for the FOURTH time this year. Each year ends with a big showcase, where members get a chance to show off their skills, hard work and improvement to family and friends. Our teachers and committee members are not just there to help run the society - should you ever need a chat with a friendly face, feel free to contact any of us!

In the year 2013/2014, the society won the 'Highly Commended Society' award at the annual DSU Societies Awards and the year 2015/2016 we smashed that by not only winning ‘The Best Committee Award’ but also ‘The Best Society of the Year’ for 2015 as well as winning 'The Best Society of the Year' again in 2016. We plan to continue our winning streak!
The society has a large presence across campus, and provides a fun and enjoyable atmosphere making it great place to hang out, learn, develop and make new friends in your all-important first days at uni! As well as running weekly dance classes, we hold socials on Wednesday evenings to enjoy games, stories and each others company (it may or may not include alcohol consumption!) We also plan specific sober socials to get to know people in an alcohol-free environment.
This year the classes we will be offering are:
- Beginner and advanced ballet
- Beginner and advanced tap
- Hip Hop
All classes are taught by fellow students who are experienced and competent teachers.
