LEICESTER – On Wednesday, August 20th, the Laugh Lounge hosted its inaugural Hindi/Urdu comedy night, an event so exclusive, so underground, that we forgot to tell most of the 58 people who registered that they were supposed to actually show up.

Our dream was simple: a free comedy night to unite the city in laughter. The reality was a beautiful, chaotic experiment. We'd like to extend a massive thank you to the ghosts of the 50 people who RSVP'd; your spiritual support was felt, and the empty chairs you left behind were surprisingly comfortable.

But let's talk about who was there. Eight legends. Eight founding members who witnessed history. They saw our one booked performer – a comedian of unparalleled courage – deliver a killer set to a room with the intimate vibe of a high-stakes poker game.

Then, when it became clear the other nine performers had apparently been abducted, your humble host (me) was forced to take the stage for a 30-minute set powered by pure panic and a half-eaten bag of crisps. It was a performance described by one attendee as "definitely something I have now seen." High praise.

So, What's Next? We're Doing It Again, But in English.

Having learned the valuable lesson that "free tickets" are sometimes interpreted as "a polite suggestion," we are now channeling our chaotic energy into planning our English Comedy Night.

Will it be in a venue? Will it be in a park? Will I end up performing a one-man show about the dangers of optimism? Nobody knows.

What we do know is that it will be funny, it will be memorable, and we hope it will have an audience slightly larger than a standard football team's starting lineup. The eight legends from our first show are already waiting.
