A number of familiar faces from the media world will be in attendance at The SULETS Demon Media Awards 2016.

They include, amongst others, Chris North, founder of Demon FM and now national radio talent agent, ex-Demon Media member Dave Murphy, now of Capital FM, and Dino and Pete, from Capital FM East Midland’s breakfast show.

The awards, on Friday 27 May, are being held in the Great Hall at St Martins House in Leicester and celebrate another stellar year for Demon Media, in which they have provided coverage of many high-profile events including Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival – for which Demon Media members picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award – Handmade Festival plus, of course, Varsity 2016.

And, with professionals from the industry not only attending but also judging the awards on offer, the event provides nominees with a chance to have their work showcased to the industry plus celebrate their achievements throughout the year.

Adam Redfern, VP Media and Communications at DSU, said: “We’ve had 210 nominations in from Demon Media members and it’s very competitive for the awards this year.

“It’s an ongoing tradition now that we all get together in May and celebrate the success that we’ve had throughout the year.

“We invite a lot of industry professionals, past members that have been involved with Demon Media and people from places like Radio 1 and talent agencies.

“It’s great for us to celebrate what Demon Media has done throughout the year but to also showcase that to industry professionals as well and hopefully get some jobs for our members.”

Awards on offer include The Demon Best Article to Demon TV Best On-Screen Female all the way to the three biggies; Demon Personality of the Year, Strand of the Year and Demon of the Year.

Adam continued: “The fact that we send out our nominations to industry professionals to judge stands the students in great stead to get a job once they graduate because they’ll hear their demo or see their writing and think, ‘They could do a job for us’.

“It’s a good opportunity for students to put a nomination in and get their name out there.”

Adam said that Demon Media members are a tight-knit group, making for a memorable evening.

“It’s the most intimate awards as it’s a group that’s close together.

“There’s a real good feel to it. It’s a great celebration.”

Tickets are £17.50 and include entry to the awards plus a drinks reception, two-course meal, and evening entertainment including stand-up comedy and a magician.
