De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) has joined forces with De Montfort University (DMU) to recognise lecturers that have gone the extra mile for their students.
Nominations are now open for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Awards 2017-18, which give DMU students the chance to nominate teachers, lecturers and tutors who have had a positive impact on their time at university.
To nominate someone, head to survey.dmu.ac.uk/vcdta and fill in the quick form, or pick up a flyer across campus, fill it in, and hand it into our Reception in the Campus Centre by Monday 12 February 2018.
Elgan Hughes, Membership Manager at DSU, said: “This is all about a celebration of outstanding contributions from staff across the university and the positive impact they have had on their students.
“The university experience is all about working together and building relationships, and this is the time to recognise that.
“The students’ union is here to represent your academic interests, but we cannot do that without you, as well as staff across the university who help us create that positive change.
“The Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Awards are your opportunity to give back and let someone know the influence they have had and how they have helped shape your future. Just 30 seconds out of your time can make someone’s day and let that lecturer know that what they are doing is fantastic.”
Elgan and Keira Rounsley, former VP Welfare and Community at DSU, helped recognised 2016's winners – including Health and Life Science's Lisa Miller – alongside Vice-Chancellor Dominic Shellard at the OSCARs in June 2016.
We want to know in detail how your teacher, lecturer or tutor has;
- inspired you to want to learn more about their subject;
- helped you achieve something you might not otherwise have done;
- provided outstanding feedback on your work, in writing and/or in person;
- used innovative and engaging teaching methods in the classroom and/or online;
- offered excellent support as your personal tutor;
- helped you build skills and confidence in preparing for your career after graduation;
- and/or been an excellent communicator, stimulating and informative.
Phew! And to top it all off, you can make as many nominations as you like – just as long as you get them in before Monday 12 February!
The winners will be announced, alongside recipients of the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Student Awards – nominated by teaching staff – at the university’s Outstanding Service Contribution and Achievement Recognition Awards (OSCARs) later this academic year.
