We know that loads of you Shape Your Future with us, but how about shaping the futures of others?

De Montfort Students’ Union’s successful Shape Your Future initiative launched late last year and has helped students more aware of the opportunities available to them both at DSU and the university as a whole.

And this year the scheme will take on an even more student-led focus – and you could be paid to run the scheme as our Shape Your Future Frontrunner!

Adam Redfern, VP Media and Communications at DSU, set up the initiative in 2015. He said: “De Montfort University has employability high up on their agenda and I think it is important that the students’ union mirrors that.

“Over the last two years I have been focused on employability and in future years there may not be that same focus from exec and Shape Your Future is there to create a legacy to continue the work that has been put in place.”

Not only will the position help enhance your own skills, but also through the scheme will help build the employability of thousands of students across campus.

DMU’s Frontrunners scheme sees current students at the university gain vital work experience. Placements are either three, six or nine months in length and up to ten hours a week during term-time to fit around lectures and studies. And the best bit? Frontrunners are paid the Living Wage!

Adam continued: “The Frontrunner will facilitate the Shape Your Future brand and work for ten hours a week on exposure, running a drop in service and engaging students who are not as engaged as they could be.

“There will not only be the opportunity to enhance other students’ employability but also their own employability in the process by helping others.

“They will act as a good role model to students getting involved with an initiative that is recognised by the university.”
