Students are being invited to come down and sample life in DSU’s sports clubs and societies this Wednesday as part of #ReFreshers16’s taster sessions at the new Watershed facility on Watershed Wednesday.

There will be a number of societies and sports clubs at ‘Watershed Wednesday’, offering the chance for students to chat to their members and get a taste of what they do.

Mike Palmer, Peer Mentoring Coordinator with DSU’s Volunteering and Societies office, said:  “Watershed Wednesday is the opportunity for sports clubs and societies to use the Watershed – a new space the university has purchased just this year for us to use.

“On Wednesday it’s open all day for clubs and societies and we have a range of activities in three different spaces.

“We’ve got a sports hall, a meeting room and a performance space and the societies we’ve got there are University Challenge, Chess, Game of Thrones, Music, Salsa, Placement Power and Hands and Feet, and they are each holding 45 minute showcases to shout about what they do.

“Hopefully the societies enjoy using it and can make the most of it while they’re in there.”

Mike added that he believes it is a great opportunity for students to find out what societies and sports clubs do without the worry of having to commit to anything.

There will also be sport club taster sessions with Table Tennis, Basketball, Badminton, Women’s Football, Futsal, Lacrosse and Netball plus many more.

Mike continued: “It’s  a great chance to see them doing what they do because it’s okay talking to students or reading a website, but they’ll be there showing what they actually do.

“It’s free to get involved, no sign-up, and if you go along and try something and it’s not for you, you’ve not got to buy into anything, not got to commit, you can go back again and try something else.

“It’s a great chance to get involved and try something new.”

There will be walking buses leaving regularly from the Campus Centre, taking roughly ten minutes to reach the Watershed building, next to the River Soar just off Upperton Road.
