De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) have recently been made aware of an alleged incident of inappropriate behaviour on a De Montfort University (DMU) student in their accommodation.

This incident occurred when the student let in an engineer to undertake some repair work and has since been reported to the police and DMU Security.

Students are reminded to be vigilant when it comes to allowing people into their accommodation, and where possible to have professional work carried out in public spaces or at appropriate premises. If at all possible, students should always have a friend with them if the professional work cannot be carried out in a public space.

If you have been the victim of a sexual assault;

  • if the incident has happened in student halls, report the incident to your halls manager;
  • and in all cases, report the incident to DMU Security on 0116 257 7642 or security@dmu.ac.uk.

The university’s Mandala Project also has a specialist team of First Responders who can help you decide what to do next, in confidence. They are available on 0116 207 8309 or mandala@dmu.ac.uk.

Our Advice team are also available to give free, confidential and independent advice. You can get in touch with them on the page here.
