Freshers Week is DMU’s busiest time of year.  The whole campus comes alive with the excitement and buzz of over 17,000 students returning to campus after a long summer break joined by the arrival of 5,000 brand new first years.

For the Students’ Union, organising and executing Freshers Week is an absolutely mammoth task!  We’re here to make sure that all 22,000 of you have an incredible time at our fairs and events – as well as making sure you all settle in well to life at DMU.

With over 40 events taking place over Freshers Week, we just couldn’t have achieved this alone.  We were therefore so privileged to have 72 fantastic second and third year students volunteering to be Freshers Reps with us.  Managed by Frontrunner Freshers Rep Coordinator Fern Beard, the Reps made such a difference to #FreshFest15 and were one of the reasons why it was our best Freshers ever!

From helping students move into halls, directing and advising, to managing stands, marshalling and running events – this blue brigade of volunteers really were the heroes of Freshers!

The union has received fantastic feedback from departments across DSU and the university that the Freshers Reps assisted, as well as students themselves.

Being a Freshers Rep is a DSU volunteering role.  It’s a fantastic way to really get involved in and help others during Freshers Week.  Not only does it equip you with some great experiences and skills, it looks great on your CV and you log your hours through DSU Volunteering.  Find out more about volunteering works at www.demontfortstudents.com/volunteering

Freshers Reps – we salute you!
