Don’t Freeze Our Futures: How your Students’ Union is taking action:

The National Union of Students (NUS) has launched the Don’t Freeze Our Futures campaign, a UK wide movement calling for urgent reform of the student loan system. This predominately impacts students that took out student loans between 1st September 2012 and 31st July 2023. As your Student Voice Leaders, we’re committed to making sure your voices are heard at a national level.

Here’s how we’re getting involved...

What is the “Don’t Freeze Our Futures” Campaign?

The campaign is a nationwide NUS initiative calling for reform of the student loan system, which many argue is no longer fair or fit for purpose. It highlights that:

  • Frozen repayment thresholds mean graduates are paying back more of their income each year despite rising living costs

  • Interest rates continue to escalate student debt, often faster than borrowers can repay

  • The current system is failing students, graduates, and families, placing many in financial hardship

NUS is calling for the government to unfreeze repayment thresholds, reform interest rates, and introduce clearer and fairer loan terms

How can Students get involved?

Your lived experiences strengthen national campaigning and NUS is actively calling for your input.

1 - Share Your Experiences (Students and Alumni)

MPs on the Treasury Committee are interested in gathering feedback through a national survey on student loan experiences (Deadline: 15 April).
Your story helps influence the case for reform.
