With the Rugby World Cup in full swing, excitement has definitely taken hold of the city of Leicester and beyond.

As well as the matches scheduled to be played at Leicester’s King Power Stadium, Leicester City Council have also arranged for key matches to be shown live on a massive screen in Victoria Park as part of their Fanzone initiative.  The initiative is run by volunteers (who were trained at DSU’s facilities a few weeks ago) with the aim of getting more Leicester rugby fans to enjoy a match day experience.

On Sunday 4th October, Fanzone showed both the Argentina v Tonga and Ireland v Italy games in the park.  Between the matches, Leicester City Council invited the DMU Dance society, DMU Saints cheer squad and DMU Steppers society to perform.  Watched by hundreds of local to Leicester rugby fans, the teams did De Montfort Students’ Union proud entertaining the crowds and creating a fantastic atmosphere.

The performances followed a busy Freshers week in which all 3 teams were heavily involved in matriculations, taster sessions and the DSU Sports and Societies fair.
