It was a largely positive week of results for DSU’s sides in the latest round of BUCS fuxtures, with 10 wins from 20 fixtures.

Men’s rugby enjoyed a fine day of competition as both their sides romped to impressive victories; the seconds thrashing Aston seconds 62-0 at home, while the firsts travelled to Warwick thirds and came away with a 58-5 win.

Sadly their female counterparts could not replicate last week’s result, narrowly losing by a couple of scores to University of Lincoln firsts 29-12 at home.

Despite putting to bed the business of securing the league title last week, men’s football showed no signs of slowing their charge to Varsity glory as they eased to another fine away win at Worcester fourths, putting four past their Midlands rivals with no reply.

Their colleagues in the women’s firsts also got in on the victory act, posting a home win against Leicester despite their rivals teasing an ‘easy’ fixture on social media – and the 3-2 scoreline is sure to give DMUWFC a boost before the all-important Varsity fixture between the two sides next month.

There was no such luck for the remainder of our footballers, however, where men’s seconds, thirds and fourths all fell to close-fought home defeats.

Elsewhere, men’s lacrosse won emphatically, beating Lincoln firsts 13-4 at home, as did men’s basketball, triumphing 66-48 over Loughborough University thirds.

Netball seconds were too strong for local rivals Leicester thirds, winning 21-28 at the QEII, and men’s tennis edged out Nottingham Trent seconds 4-2 on their own turf in their sixth victory on the bounce.

Men’s badminton rounded-up a quadruple of away successes with a 5-3 victory at Nottingham Trent thirds, but the women’s side suffered a 7-1 reverse at Leicester firsts.

Men’s hockey defeated University of Bedford firsts 5-3 on home soil to complete our victors for the week.
