Men’s football firsts secured their league title with two games to spare in what was an otherwise mixed bag of BUCS results for DSU’s sports teams.
There was plenty of cause for celebration with the men’s football first XI winning the title in resounding style, thumping the University of Wolverhampton second-string 7-1 in their own back yard to ensure that they cannot be overtaken in the league table this season.
Women’s rugby, meanwhile, romped to a fine away victory of their own, easing to a 24-5 win at the University of Derby firsts.
Further success came via our racquet sport teams, with women’s badminton triumphing 5-3 at home over Anglia Ruskin firsts, and men’s squash firsts making the short trip to Nottingham Trent a sweet one, securing the points with a 4-1 win.
Elsewhere there were a number of narrow defeats, including men’s badminton firsts, falling 5-3 at home to University of Birmingham thirds, and netball seconds, who slipped to an agonising 34-32 loss away at Bishop Grosseteste firsts.
