It’s finally time to show you De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s new logo and brand!

After months of hard work, thousands of student comments and more sleepless nights than we’d like to admit, we’re now ready to show you the first step of #YourNewDSU.

Dan Winney, President of DSU, said: “These are really exciting times for DSU with the £3 million overhaul of our home, so it’s a perfect opportunity to change the way our brand looks and the way we represent ourselves, too.

“I think this new brand and logo perfectly illustrate all of the brilliant things we do at DSU and focus on our main job, which is giving a voice to all DMU students.

“I’d like to thank every single student that has been involved along the way, and we hope you love our new look as much as we do. I’m looking forward to seeing it on and around campus and beyond.”

This is an exciting period for your students’ union, with building work already starting on the spectacular £3 million overhaul of our home. And as we’re getting a shiny new building, we thought it might be time to freshen up the way our brand looks too. Late last year we asked you lovely lot what you thought of our logo, and over 1,500 of you responded. You can read the journey we took to get to our new logo here.

This is the new main logo and icon for DSU. The ‘speech bubble’ design represents your students’ union’s biggest job – giving you your voice at De Montfort University (DMU). Our main colours are a modern slate and graphite.

We’ve then got four ‘sub-brands’ to help you make the most of your time at DMU, each with their own colour. There’s Activities (red), Voice (purple), Support (gold) and Life (teal).

Each of these have also got their own Twitter accounts, so make sure you follow @ActivitiesDSU, @VoiceDSU, @SupportDSU and @LifeDSU as well as @demontfortsu to get all the latest news and information (and maybe a couple of GIFs)…

Yamini Prajapati-Chauhan, Graphic Design Coordinator at DSU, said: “We’ve created a new brand and logo that provide not only a recognisable and more cohesive brand which clearly shows what DSU stands for but something more suited to our student members.

“We’ve also established a ‘family brand’ to bring all the students’ union’s departments visually closer together.”

“This rebrand brings DSU right up to date with a distinctive image that is optimised for the digital age.”
