We’ve got three opportunities for you to get paid for your work with De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s student media group.

De Montfort University (DMU)’s innovative Frontrunners scheme is designed to give students the chance to gain and develop a range of transferable skills while also boosting their post-graduation employability, and we have three opportunities within Demon Media.

Mike Mayes, VP Media and Communications at DSU, said: “Roles in Demon Media are a great way of gaining some amazing experience, meeting some incredible people and making the most of your time here at DMU – all while earning a bit of extra cash to help you through!

“Two of these roles are very important to the continued running of DemonFM, our on-campus community radio station, while another is pivotal to our success as a media group.”

The DemonFM Head of Weekends and DemonFM Head of Imaging and Demon Media Web Developer roles are now open for applications from any current DMU student.

Mike continued: “The Head of Weekends role involves working with presenters on Saturday and Sunday, when we have a high number of our community presenters doing their shows.

“It also arguably affords the most creative control in terms of what direction you take the weekend in with past shows including those which involve speech and current affairs, to rock and metal shows, to full DJ sets. It’s a great chance to put your creative stamp on your station.

“Meanwhile the Head of Imaging role involves creating station imaging. That’s those quick idents which tell listeners what show or what station they’re listening to in case they’ve just tuned in.

“More than that imaging really helps to craft a feeling for a radio station through choice of music, dialogue and voice. Again this is a great chance to stretch your creativity while working to improve our already great station.

“The Web Developer role is crucial to Demon Media and involves working across all strands. The websites are some of our most crucial forms of communication and so this role is pivotal.

“I couldn’t recommend getting involved enough, had I not been involved in Demon Media I certainly wouldn’t still be here. We really look forward to having you on board!”

If you’re interested, download the job descriptions from the links above and then fill out the application form here and send it to mike.mayes@dmu.ac.uk. You can also email Mike if you have any questions about either role.

The deadline for applications is 11:59pm on Wednesday 17 August. Good luck!

Candidates will be shortlisted and then contacted for an interview in person or over the phone.

Students past and present have gained real-world experience through their roles in Demon Media and have gone on to work for well-known media organisations up and down the country. You can read some of their stories in our Hall of Fame here.
