De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s resident student radio station will be featured on BBC Radio 1 later this month.

DemonFM is one of just 12 student radio stations from across the UK to have won the chance to have an hour-long themed playlist of their choice featured on the BBC’s flagship station for new music through their membership of the UK Student Radio Association (SRA).

The show is due to be broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on Monday 18 June at 9pm.

Ollie McGrath is DemonFM’s incoming Head of Programming and hosted the pre-recorded show as well as coordinated the playlist picking procedure. He said: “Recording the show was really good fun!

“Having the chance to work with BBC Radio 1’s Producers was quite daunting but also an honour. I can’t wait for people to hear the show now!

“Although the show is predominantly focused on the music and our theme and I hope I managed to be a little funny, with an added tinge of sarcasm and to get my personality across.

“This has been a massive opportunity for me but also DemonFM. It shows that the possibilities are endless when you’re involved with Demon Media.”

The playlist, titled ‘This One Time On My Gap Yah’, is based around that clichéd trip you make as a student to find yourself. The playlist features a diverse mix of music from Coldplay to The Temper Trap and was curated after suggestions from DemonFM’s huge membership of both De Montfort University (DMU) students and community members.
