DMU students really are at the heart of everything we do and we want to make your time at DMU truly unforgettable!

We want to celebrate the festive season and all of the amazing things that your Students' Union has achieved this year with support from the university, and of course - all of you lovely lot! There are 10 massive things in particular that we'd like to share with you this festive season - so here is our #DSUFestive10.

Day 4 of the #DSUFestive10 and our gift to you is one of the main reasons we exist! It’s representing you and lobbying the university and other parties on behalf of the 22,000 students who go to DMU.

This year your VP Welfare and Community Keira Rounsley lobbied for all private halls providers not to raise their prices above inflation and has saved you guys in total hundreds of thousands of pounds by pushing for a cap on all providers associated with DMU. We’ll put that one in the win column.

Of course Dan Winney, your VP Student Activities, campaigned for discounted gym membership for all DSU Active Card holders and won you a third off your membership to the QEII Leisure Centre. Another tick. And Adam Redfern, VP Media and Communications, managed to lobby for a massive £2,500 extra funding for Demon Media directly from the university this year.

We also look out for you in the city, too! Your DP Education Amie Chapman, together with the university, is formally opposing the closure of Leicester Central Fire Station.

But all of this wouldn’t be possible without you – so far this academic year we’ve had almost a thousand responses to our ‘question of the month’ – a way of finding out what really matters to you and how to make your university adventure even more incredible!

More than 700 of you were engaged and aired your views on the scrapping of the Disability Support Allowance, and our Student Voice team trained 234 course and school reps to make sure you’re getting what you need from your course.

We’ve also made sure that from next year the university will let you know who your course and school reps and personal tutor are through myDMU. Pretty neat, right?

It was also brilliant to see so many faces at The Big Meet, our annual general meeting, earlier this week – that’s the place where you go to get your voice heard.

And after all that, don’t forget that we had our biggest by-elections EVER in November this year, with 21 candidates running for a total of four positions and collectively getting 1,400 votes! Amazing!

It really is what your DSU is all about – making your time at DMU unforgettable.  What would make your time at DMU even better? Comment below!
