DE MONTFORT STUDENTS’ UNION OVERVIEW
De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) is an independent, student-run and student-led organisation. We are a separate limited company and registered charity to De Montfort University (DMU) but represent the 27,000 students studying there. A students’ union is part of the community of its university. Each year, students (our members) elect leaders to represent them to the university and DSU staff help them do this to the best of their ability as well as mentor, facilitate and contribute to the day-to-day life of students.
Our purpose is simple: to improve the experience and education of our members, the students of DMU. We do this through activities, expert advice, democratic representation, opportunities, and our social venues.
We’re on the cusp of creating our new strategy, have a brand-new three-year vision for our commercial facilities and have begun an EDI plan to act as the foundation for all our student-facing and team-facing work.

ROLE SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND
The Head of Income Generation & Enterprise is responsible for the strategic direction and effective operational management of De Montfort Students’ Union commercial services, our marketing and communications and the delivery of continuous improvement of income generation.
As a key member of the Senior Management team the post holder will lead the development of commercial services to deliver exceptional services to our customers and members that maximises profitability. This role will be a leader in the charity, working alongside students and student-leaders, empowering our whole team and acting as a senior advisor to our Trustee Board and sub-committees. Combining your expert knowledge of how to appeal to a thriving and diverse market with an exceptional communications team, you will be the lynchpin that pushes our visibility and helps improve engagement with our membership services by proxy.
DSU commercial services include, but are not limited to, a 1000-person capacity late night venue, a retail outlet, an eatery and sales and advertising income generation.
The post holder will also be the sustainability lead for DSU and work closely with departments and elected officers on developing and implementing a sustainability strategy.
