Hello! My name is Hollie Walton, although you may recognise me as Crystik on the Discord server where I act as the current owner/admin!
Our year has been impacted fundamentally by Covid, and so I believe that a new approach to student rep is important to make sure that voices are still heard. This has meant a special emphasis on online content, which I understand can be frustrating when paying for a full uni course. For this reason, I am dedicated to making sure that every member on the course receives the best possible experience, such as closer online connection with staff and years above to make sure we are not left at a disadvantage.
I would be honoured to be elected, and I believe I would be a well-rounded individual suited to a leadership role; I learn quickly so I would be able to rapidly apply training received and give back to the community. I would do this via:
- Continuing to manage the discord to receive student queries as best as I can, in the form of:
- Holding polls and votes
- Keeping my personal DMs open to requests
- Relaying the results from students in a professional, non-biased format while staying focussed on delivering what students ask for with a firm debate stance.
- Making notes or, with permission, record audio of meetings to later pass onto students
- Making the Discord a central hub of information, bringing all links/resources into a single location for everyone to access
- Aiming to organise course related group events, like the #DMUGametober event.
- Create a small “council” group with the other candidates, where they would receive admin rights to manage the discord and aid students
