Hello all,
My name is Emily Grimstead and I am running for the position of Course Representative for 3rd Year Fine Art. I am running for this position because I want to create an open and collaborative dialogue between Fine Art students and the university to fully understand and implement your requirements.
My Qualifications:
At present I am an Advocate for UK New Artists (UKNA) where I have supported students in my cohort with their Open Call applications. I have an active engagement across Fine Art disciplines, and developing opportunities for students to be involved in the arts community beyond the university.
I have had a presence alongside the student-led university action group PauseorPay to share our concerns.
With these contributions I have developed the skills to observe, and listen to others. I see these qualities can aid how student concerns can be appropriately addressed, to build a consensus and find a solution.
I have also been in communication with the Deputy Dean of the university during the lockdown and summer, and I believe this makes me an ideal candidate.
My Principles and Beliefs:
Art and the value of Art matters
Students are adults
We are the future of Fine Art
Coming together and being community
Having clarity and transparency
I am going to work to achieve :
-
A policy of representation and acknowledgement for all Fine Art students
-
To advocate meaningful inclusion for our growing community
-
Integration between tutors and students to galvanise our cohort together
-
Work with the university to employ careers advice and opportunities
-
Establish a chain of support with institutional linkages with the city arts organisations
-
Establishing comfort for student welfare
I believe these aims will administer long term responses to sustain support for our degree structure. The students and the university now have an opportunity to collaborate on an application of purpose, to define how the future of higher education in the Arts progresses.
Thankyou for reading my manifesto.
