After investing in three or four years(with placement) in an Accounting and Finance degree we expect to go into a graduate role that will let us progress in our field of study.
In the current environment it is even harder to find a graduate role however this is no excuse for the university to be slacking in their assistance with graduate roles and being more active with their approach to ensure every student has a better chance of securing a graduate position. There is a lot of emphasis and guidance with finding placements but not so much with Graduate positions, but WHY?.
I will be ensuring if I am elected as course rep that as final year Accounting and Finance students that this why is answered and I will work with the careers team and relevant members of staff at the universities that we have more interactive sessions, perhaps more employer zoom calls, a step further in making it a less daunting and sometimes demotivating process.
I have completed a placement at Vauxhall motors within their Finance department so I have a good idea of what employers are looking for and can be of help myself to any students who don't feel comfortable speaking to staff at university but someone in the same position as them and I will be glad to have any one-to-one conversations of any concerns.
