“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean”- Hellen Keller.

Hi, my name is Simran. I am a final year Business and Marketing student and I believe that, together we can make a difference to our student life at DMU. I left secondary school feeling worried and unsure but my time at DMU has given me the confidence to tackle challenges head on. I firmly believe that there is no greater energy than positivity.

Your vote for me will mean:

  1. Our mind too”: because mental health is just as important as physical health. We are in the midst of challenging times, and familiarity is more important now than ever. “Our mind too” would be a new scheme designed to encourage networking through initiatives such as a virtual games night or how about a virtual international food themed lunch? Lets stick together even though we are apart!

  1. Skillability”: gives you the chance to develop non-academic skills while giving back to the local community at the same time. An idea drop will be available for you to submit your ideas and suggestions which we will vote on. The invaluable skills we learn here will set us apart from the competition. So come on, let’s make a difference to the community in our own way!

  1. Shaping our learning: The shift to online learning has been a big adjustment for us all and I believe that it is integral for online learning to be student-centric therefore, I am proposing that students should be encouraged to provide feedback more regularly to ensure that we get the most out of our sessions. I am confident in building a strong rapport with the university staff including senior members to ensure our issues are at the forefront of decision making.

Helping others is an integral part of my belief system and by working together we will bring about positive change. There is no greater energy than positivity.  As head peer mentor at secondary school, I had regular meetings with the other peer mentors and senior staff members to develop tailored strategies for each tutor group based on student comments. An example of this was working with other students from a range of backgrounds to provide translation support as well as ensuring that the students felt part of the wider school community.

One collective voice is more powerful than many shouting over each other, a vote for me ensures that your voice will be heard.

Together we stand. Vote Simran!
