Writing a ‘femifesto’ targeted at all women is very difficult due to the many layers; race, class, religion and sexuality are just some of the intersects which makes us all unique.

I want to help create platforms and spaces where women from all backgrounds can meet, discuss and work together to make DMU a better place for all woman.

I aim to do this by:

  1. Working with already established societies to create and organise workshops, talks and discussions aimed at empowering and inspiring female students. Including body positivity, women in STEM.
  2. Create events to celebrate the success and achievements of British women and their impact on society. It is very easy to forget how far we have come as a society. (There is still a long way to go)
  3. Host talks with powerful and inspiring women. Including academics, influencers, MPs.
  4. Continue to push for zero tolerance towards sexual harassment. Work with the Mandala project to raise awareness of services available.
  5. Introduce self defence sessions on campus.
  6. Work towards reducing attainment gap at De Montfort University which disproportionately affects BAME students.
  7. Continue to work towards making our curriculum more diverse.  We need more women and people of colour on our reading lists. Representation matters!
  8. Work with the other Representatives to make sure my work is intersectional and inclusive.
