Writing a ‘femifesto’ targeted at all women is very difficult due to the many layers; race, class, religion and sexuality are just some of the intersects which makes us all unique.
I want to help create platforms and spaces where women from all backgrounds can meet, discuss and work together to make DMU a better place for all woman.
I aim to do this by:
- Working with already established societies to create and organise workshops, talks and discussions aimed at empowering and inspiring female students. Including body positivity, women in STEM.
- Create events to celebrate the success and achievements of British women and their impact on society. It is very easy to forget how far we have come as a society. (There is still a long way to go)
- Host talks with powerful and inspiring women. Including academics, influencers, MPs.
- Continue to push for zero tolerance towards sexual harassment. Work with the Mandala project to raise awareness of services available.
- Introduce self defence sessions on campus.
- Work towards reducing attainment gap at De Montfort University which disproportionately affects BAME students.
- Continue to work towards making our curriculum more diverse. We need more women and people of colour on our reading lists. Representation matters!
- Work with the other Representatives to make sure my work is intersectional and inclusive.
